State of Vermont summons dated 1798 January 24, signed John Bush, Justice of Peace. Orders David Johnson, of Norwich, to appear in Woodstock, Vermont to the courthouse in March 1798 to answer the plaintiff, Elihue Baxter, also of Norwich.

John Bush (1792-1876), the son of Levi and Martha "Patty" (Ball) Bush, was born in Boylston, Mass., on 3 July 1792. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1814, and was a preceptor of an academy in Wiscasset, Me., around 1816. After 1817, Bush was a physician in Vassalboro, Me., for several years.
